Note: This procedure applies to the front and rear output shaft seals.
1. Raise the vehicle and install vertical supports.
2. When replacing the front oil seal, the front driveshaft must be removed. When replacing the rear oil seal, the rear propeller shaft must be removed (see chapter 8).
3. When replacing the front oil seal, it is necessary to pull the dust shield away from the secondary shaft. Tap the seal with a screwdriver to loosen it in the socket, then pry and remove the seal.
4. To remove the rear oil seal of the secondary shaft, you just need to pry it off with a screwdriver or a special tool. Do not damage the oil seal socket.
5. Lubricate the lip of the new oil seal with petroleum jelly.
6. Insert the oil seal into its original location using a special mandrel or deep socket. The outer diameter of the head should be slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the oil seal. When installing the front oil seal, it is necessary to install a dust shield on the output shaft.
7. The remainder of the installation procedure is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
