This chapter describes procedures related to transmission components located downstream from the transmission (or transfer case, if its presence is provided for by the design) to the driven wheels of the vehicle. The described elements are conventionally divided into two groups: cardan transmission and drive shafts (axle shafts). Separate subsections provide general descriptions, as well as descriptions of inspection procedures for elements of each group.
Since almost all of the described procedures involve working on the vehicle from the bottom, ensure its stability by installing reliable supports after lifting with a jack, or lift and lower it on a special lift.
