Warning: When starting the engine for the first time after a major overhaul, keep a fire extinguisher ready.
1. After installing the engine in the car, check the oil and coolant levels.
2. With the spark plugs unscrewed and the ignition and fuel systems turned off (see subsection 3) Turn the engine crankshaft with the starter so that the emergency oil pressure indicator goes off.
3. Install the spark plugs and connect the wires. Connect the ignition system and fuel system.
4. Start the engine. Please note that it should start without difficulty, but may take longer than usual due to the fact that the fuel system is not full.
5. After starting, warm up the engine at idle speed to normal operating temperature. During warm-up, check for fuel, oil and coolant leaks. Do not exceed the fast idle speed until the hydraulic valve lifter pump rises and comes to rest again (As a rule, this takes at least 5 minutes).
6. After the engine has warmed up, check for any engine oil or coolant leaks. After installing a new camshaft and valve lifters, it is necessary to keep the engine running at high idle speed for at least 15 minutes after the hydraulic compensator pump has risen and returned to rest to allow the cams and lifters to break in. In this case, it is necessary to monitor the temperature indicator readings to prevent the engine from overheating.
7. Stop the engine and check the engine oil and coolant levels again.
8. Drive the vehicle off the road, increasing the speed from 50 to 80 km/h, and then slowing down again to 50 km/h with the throttle closed. By repeating this procedure 10-12 times, the piston rings and cylinder walls will burn in. Check again for coolant and engine oil leaks.
9. After replacing pistons, rings or crankshaft bearings, the engine should be treated as new. It should be run in for the first 800 km. Do not open the throttle fully during this period and do not overload the engine at low speeds in any gear. During this period, as a rule, engine oil is not consumed.
10. Change the engine oil and filter after driving approximately 800-1000 km.
11. Continue normal operation of the vehicle, loading the engine in normal modes.
12. After traveling 3200 km, change the oil and filter. From this moment on, the engine is considered to have been fully run-in.
