Warning: See warning in subsection 1.
Note: After relieving pressure, it is recommended to wrap a wetted cloth around the fuel line disconnect coupling to absorb any fuel remaining in the system.
1. Before performing any work that involves exposure to fuel system components, fuel pressure must be relieved to minimize the risk of fire and injury.
2. Remove the fuel tank filler cap - this will equilibrate the tank pressure with atmospheric pressure.
3. Remove the fuel pump relay located in the block located in the engine compartment (see illustration 3.3).
4. Start the engine and wait until it stops. After this, turn on the starter so that the crankshaft rotates for 5-10 seconds.
5. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
6. Wrap the disconnect coupling in a cloth to absorb any fuel remaining in the system after the pressure is released.
