Engine starting
1. Before starting the engine, make sure the parking brake lever is set. When starting the engine, the gear lever must be in position P (Parking) or N (Neutral). To restart the engine while the vehicle is already moving, use the lever position N (Neutral).
Warning:
- Do not move the automatic transmission selector to position P (Parking) while the car is moving.
- Otherwise, you may damage your vehicle's transmission.
2. Turn the ignition key to the START position. Do not press the accelerator pedal. Release the key after starting the engine. The idle speed will decrease as the engine warms up.
3. If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, the system will stop cranking the engine to prevent damage to the starter.
4. Do not increase the engine speed immediately after starting the engine.
5. Allow sufficient time for the engine to warm up and for engine oil to flow to all engine parts that require lubrication.
Computer engine start control system
6. This system facilitates engine starting and prevents damage to various vehicle components. Once the engine starts cranking, it will rotate for a few seconds or until the engine starts.
7. If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, the system will stop cranking the engine to prevent damage to the starter.
8. To stop cranking the engine or turn off the engine, turn the ignition key to the ACC or LOCK position.
Starting the engine in cold weather
9. When starting the engine in very cold weather (at temperatures below - 18°C), turn the ignition key to the START position and hold it in this position for up to 15 seconds. Release the key after starting the engine.
10. To avoid draining the battery and damaging the starter, wait at least 15 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
11. After the engine starts, allow it to warm up before driving. Do not increase the engine speed until the engine has warmed up.
12. Allow sufficient time for the engine to warm up and for engine oil to flow to all engine parts that require lubrication.
Excess gasoline in the engine cylinders
13. If the engine does not start within ten seconds, the engine may have had too much gasoline supplied to the cylinders. In this case, press the accelerator pedal all the way down and continue to hold the ignition key in the START position for another five seconds.
14. After starting the engine, release the key and remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.
15. If the engine starts and immediately stalls, repeat the same steps. This will remove excess gasoline from the engine cylinders.
16. To avoid draining the battery and damaging the starter, wait at least 15 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
17. After the engine starts, allow it to warm up before driving. Do not increase the engine speed until the engine has warmed up.
18. Allow sufficient time for the engine to warm up and for engine oil to flow to all engine parts that require lubrication.
