Warning: The vehicles described in this manual are equipped with a passive restraint system (SRS), also known as an air spring system. Before carrying out work in the area where the elements of this system are located, you should turn off its power, since accidental deployment of the airbags can result in serious injury (see subsection 28).
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (see chapter 1).
2. Remove the left soundproofing panel and the knee buffer (see chapter 11).
3. When performing the procedure on a Chevrolet car, it is necessary to remove the dashboard trim (see chapter 11). If the procedure is being performed on a GMC or Oldsmobile, the dash plate must be removed.
4. Remove the screws that secure the shield to the instrument panel.
5. Pull the shield forward enough to allow you to disconnect the connectors located on the reverse side, then pull the shield completely out after lifting its base.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
