Description
All models covered in this manual use hydraulic brake systems with vacuum assist and disc brakes. Front and rear brakes are self-adjusting (they automatically maintain allowance for pad wear).
Hydraulic system
The hydraulic system has two separate circuits. The master cylinder has a split reservoir. If one of the circuits fails, the vehicle is braked by the operation of the other circuit. At the same time, an emergency indicator on the dashboard turns on, which indicates a drop in the brake fluid level and failure of the brake system.
Vacuum booster
The booster increases the efficiency of the braking system due to the vacuum created in the intake manifold. The amplifier is located on the bulkhead in the engine compartment, immediately behind the master cylinder.
Parking brake
The parking brake only applies to the rear wheels. The force from the brake lever located on the center console is transmitted through the cables, which activates a pair of brake pads located in the drum section of each rear brake disc.
Prevention
After performing procedures related to disassembling elements or disconnecting the hydraulic system, it is necessary to check the functionality and effectiveness of the brakes before starting normal operation of the vehicle. Test on a dry, clean, level area to ensure accuracy.
Check the brakes at different speeds, soft and hard braking. Braking of the car should occur evenly, without pulling to one side.
Braking efficiency is directly influenced by factors such as how evenly the vehicle is loaded and the correct wheel angles.
Warning: It is forbidden to leave only a jack as support for a raised vehicle. After loosening or removing fasteners from suspension or steering components, a thorough inspection or replacement should be performed. When replacing fasteners, it is necessary to ensure compliance with their standard size and reliability class. During assembly, the tightening torques specified in the specifications must be observed. It is forbidden to heat or straighten deformed suspension and steering elements - in this case replacement is necessary.
