General description
1. The catalyst is an exhaust system control device installed on it in order to reduce the concentration of harmful substances in the exhaust gases. A catalyst of a single layer design is used in combination with a three-way catalyst. Coating on 3-way catalyst contains platinum and rhodium to help reduce nitrogen oxide levels (NOx), as well as hydrocarbons (NS) and carbon monoxide (SO).
Examination
2. Catalyst testing equipment is very expensive and complicated. If you have a suspicion that the catalyst on your car is not working as it should, take it to a service center for diagnosis and repair.
3. Each time the vehicle is lifted to service underbody components, check the catalyst for leaks, corrosion, or other damage. If damage is found, replace the catalytic converter.
Replacement
4. Since the catalytic converter is part of the exhaust system, it is necessary to remove the exhaust pipes when replacing it (see chapter 4, section 14). Send the entire vehicle or its exhaust system to a repair shop.
