General description
49. Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located in the casing directly above the gearbox on the right side (see illustrations). It sends a pulsed voltage signal to the ECM/PCM, which converts it to MPH. This sensor is part of the transmission's torque converter clutch (TSS).
4.49a. On vehicles with 3.1L engine, vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located to the right of the gearbox | 4.49b. On vehicles with a 3.8L engine, the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located in the casing on the gearbox next to the right axle shaft |
Examination
50. To check the speed sensor, disconnect the l / P electrical connector from the wire bundle near the sensor. Voltage on brown or yellow wire (N437 on 3.1l engine or "GD14" on a 3.8 liter engine, respectively) must be at least 10 V. If not, send the ECM/PCM to a workshop for inspection.
Replacement
51. To replace the speed sensor, unscrew its fixing screw, remove the bracket and remove the sensor from the socket (see illustrations 4.49a and 4.496). After finding the flexible lead of the sensor in the wire bundle, disconnect its connector.
52. The sensor is installed in the reverse order.
