Note. As a rule, new or remanufactured cylinder heads for most engines are available from auto parts stores. Due to the fact that some special tools are required for disassembly and inspection, and the parts required for replacement are not always available, it may be more practical and economical for you to repair yourself by purchasing a replacement head assembly, rather than spending time on disassembly, checking and restoring old heads.
1. Disassembly of the cylinder head includes the removal of intake and exhaust valves and related parts. Turn away bolts of fastening of yokes and remove racks of valvate yokes from heads of cylinders. Mark the parts or store them separately so they can be reinstalled in their original position.
2. Before removing the valves, prepare the decal papers and parts storage packaging along with the related parts so that they can be stored separately and then reinstalled in their original position (see illustration).
8.2. In order to store separately all small parts, which are then installed in their original places, you can use small plastic bags with the appropriate inscriptions
3. Compress the springs on the first valve using the tool and remove the crackers (see illustration). Carefully release the spring and remove the poppet, spring and spring seat (if it is used).
8.3. Use a special device to compress the spring, and then remove the cotters from the valve stem
4. Remove the valve from the head, then remove the oil seal from the guide sleeve. If the valve sticks (not pulled out), push it back into the head and sand the area above the cracker groove with a fine-grained file or abrasive stone (see illustration).
8.4. If the valve does not come out of the guide sleeve, clean the edges of the stem end and the area above the holder groove with a file or abrasive stone
5. Repeat these steps for the rest of the valves. Remember to keep all the parts of each valve together so that you can reinstall them in their original position.
6. After completing the removal of the valves, the cylinder head must be thoroughly cleaned and inspected. If you are doing a complete engine overhaul, you must complete engine disassembly before cleaning and inspecting.
