Although the wire of fusible links appears to be thicker than the wires in the circuit they protect, nevertheless this impression is deceptive: a thick layer of insulation makes them so. All fusible links are four times thinner than the wires they protect.
Fusible links are not repairable; you need to install a new insert with a wire of the same cross section. To do this, do the following:
- A) Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
- b) Disconnect the fusible link from the wire bundle.
- V) Cut off the damaged plug from the wiring directly behind the electrical connector.
- G) Remove the insulation from the end of the wire by about 13 mm.
- d) Install the electrical connector on the new fuse link and crimp it in place.
- e) Solder the connections on both pins to get a good contact.
- and) Insulate both connections. The wires must not be visible from under the insulation.
- h) Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Check circuit for normal operation.
