General information on wheels and tires

All vehicles described in this manual are equipped with radial tires with synthetic or steel cords (see illustration). Use of other tire sizes or types may affect vehicle handling. Do not install different types of tires (e.g. with radial and diagonal ply) on one car. Tires should be replaced on the same axle in pairs, but if only one tire is being replaced, make sure it is the same size, structure, and ply construction as the other.



Because tire pressure affects tire performance and wear, tire pressure should be checked (see chapter 1).

If the wheel rims are bent, leaking air, broken bolt holes, severely corroded, missing vertical symmetry, or the wheel nuts cannot be tightened tightly, the wheels must be replaced.

Balancing wheels and tires is essential to ensure the desired handling characteristics of the vehicle. Unbalanced wheels adversely affect handling as well as tire life. Whenever a new tire is fitted to a rim, the wheel must be balanced.
