Attention! The air conditioning system is under high pressure. Do not loosen any hoses or fittings or remove any parts until the system has been discharged at a workshop or service station. Use eye protection when disconnecting air conditioning pipes.
Note. If the compressor is being replaced, the filter must also be replaced (see section 14).
Withdrawal
1. Let the system be discharged for you (see above precautions).
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Put the car on the parking brake and block the rear wheels. Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it to stands.
4. Remove the drive belt (see chapter 1, section 21) and oil filter (see chapter 1, section 12), if necessary for better access.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch (see illustration).
15.5. The compressor clutch electrical connector is located at the top of the compressor
6. Disconnect the refrigerant lines and disconnect the electrical connectors on the back of the compressor. Plug open pipes to prevent dirt and moisture from entering them (see illustration).
15.6. Disconnect the electrical connectors and unscrew the refrigerant lines from the rear of the compressor (the photo shows a 3.1L engine): 1 - refrigerant line bolt, 2 - electrical connectors
7. Remove the bolts securing the compressor to the mounting brackets and remove it from the vehicle (see illustrations).

Installation
8. If a new compressor is being installed, follow the compressor instructions for draining excess oil prior to installation.
9. The clutch can be transferred from the old compressor to the new one.
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Replace all O-rings with new ones made specifically for the A/C system and lubricate them with refrigerant oil.
11. Have the system drained, charged, and leak tested for you by the workshop that discharged the system.
