Withdrawal
Note: Group and label shims as they were originally installed. If you removed or replaced the gears of the reducer (main gear), adjust bearing preload, mesh clearance, and tooth contact pattern. If you removed or replaced the differential cup without replacing any other parts, you can install the original shims in their original mounting locations. However, always check the shape of the contact patch of the teeth in the final drive.
1. Raise the car.
2. Remove rear wheels.
3. Reducers 8.6" and 9.5": Remove the brake calipers.
4. Reducers 8.6" and 9.5": Remove the brake discs.
5. Remove the gear case cover and gasket.
6. Remove half shafts.
7. Remove the bearing adjusting nut retainer (gearboxes 9.5" and 10.5" - on right).
8. Turn away bolts of fastening and remove covers of bearings of differential. Mark the covers with the installation locations.
9. Reducer 8.6": remove the gearbox using the lever installed in the window of the differential cup.
Note: When removing the gearbox, be careful not to damage the sealing surfaces of the gearbox housing cover.
10. Reducers 9.5" and 10.5": using a special wrench, loosen the adjusting nuts of the differential bearings, remove the gearbox.
11. If necessary, remove the bearing outer races, shims and spacers. Mark the installation locations of the removed parts.
12. If necessary, remove the differential side bearing races.
13. If necessary, remove the driven gear of the reducer.
Installation
1. If removed, install the driven gear of the reducer.
2. If removed, establish cages of lateral bearings of differential.
3. Lubricate differential bearings with gear oil.
4. Install the gearbox in the gearbox housing.
5. Establish covers of bearings of differential and their bolts of fastening. Tighten the bolts by hand.
6. On gearboxes 9.5" and 10.5" Tighten the bearing adjusting nuts evenly until they make contact with the bearing race.
7. Adjust differential side bearing preload.
8. Adjust the clearance in the main gear engagement.
9. Check the shape and position of the contact patch of the final drive teeth.
10. Tighten the bearing cap bolts.
Torque:
- reducer 8.6" 75 Nm.
- reducer 9.5" 85 Nm.
- reducer 10.5" 185 Nm.
11. Install the axle shafts.
12. Install a new gasket and gearbox housing cover.
13. Reducers 8.6" and 9.5": Install the brake discs.
14. Reducers 8.6" and 9.5": Install the brake calipers.
15. Install the rear wheels.
16. Fill the gear case with gear oil.
17. Lower the car.
