Replacing the working fluid and filter

Caution: If the automatic transmission fluid is at operating temperature, take precautions to prevent fluid burns.

Caution: Use only DEXRON VI fluid. Mixing with other type of fluid may damage the transmission.

1. Jack up the vehicle and place the safety stands under the frame.

2. Place a container under the automatic transmission pan to collect the liquid.



3. Remove 18 bolts (1) fastening of the pallet of working liquid.

4. Gently knock down the pallet (2) with a rubber mallet, tilt it and drain the working fluid.



5. Remove the rubber pad (3) from the pallet.


6. Remove filter (4).

Note: Pull the filter in a straight line, without distortion. Do not bend or twist it.

7. Remove the O-ring (5) filter using a screwdriver or pliers.

8. Check the color of the liquid.

• A) Automatic transmission fluid should be red or dark brown.
• b) If the fluid is very dark or black in color and has a burnt odor, check for metal contamination (a small amount of particles is not a malfunction). If large particulates are present, flush the coolant and fluid cooler lines and overhaul the transmission. If there are no transmission problems, replace the fluid filter, cooler and flush the cooler tubes.
• V) If the working fluid is cloudy, "dairy" or looks dirty, this indicates the presence of engine coolant or water in the automatic transmission.

9. Lubricate the new seal with automatic transmission fluid and install it in the fluid filter.

10. Install a new filter on the valve block.

11. Install the pallet and tighten the fastening bolts in the order indicated in the assembly drawing "Replacing the working fluid and automatic transmission filter". Tightening torque 9 Nm.

12. Lower the car.

13. Fill in new automatic transmission fluid.

• The volume of the filled liquid:
• removal of the valve block - 5.7 l
• overhaul - 9.9 l
• complete replacement of automatic transmission - 11.7 liters
