2. Cover both fenders with protective mats.
3. Move the hood to the service position:
- A) Turn away bolts (1) hood hinges.
- b) Raise the hood vertically.
- V) Install the cover hinge bolts into the holes (2).
4. Remove the air conditioner compressor.
5. Remove the radiator supports.
6. Remove the clamp securing the upper radiator hose to the coolant pump.
7. Remove the upper radiator hose.
8. Remove the clamp securing the lower radiator hose to the coolant pump.
9. Remove the lower radiator hose.
10. Remove heater hoses.
11. On 5.3L or 6.0L LQ4 series engines, remove the engine top cover bolt.
12. Remove the top cover.
13. On the 6.0L LQ9 engine, do the following:
A) Loosen the engine top cover bolt.
- b) Turn away bolts of fastening of the left and right covers of a fuel collector.
- V) Remove the fuel rail caps.
- G) Remove the engine top cover.
14. Disconnect the valve connectors for cleaning the fuel vapor accumulator (1) and generator (3).
15. Loosen the nut (2) attaching the wire bundle bracket, disconnect the bundle from the intake manifold. Tightening torque 5 Nm.
16. Remove the clamp securing the radiator vent hose to the throttle body.
17. Remove the radiator vent hose from the throttle body.
18. Disconnect the generator cable from the generator:
- A) Slide the cover off the cable stud.
- b) Loosen the cable nut
- V) Remove the generator cable.
Tightening torque 9 Nm.
19. Disconnect ignition coil connectors (2) and fuel injectors (3) On the left side.
20. Remove the holder (5) wire harness connector.
21. Disconnect ignition coil connectors (4), fuel injectors (3) and throttle control (2).
22. Disconnect the absolute air pressure sensor connectors (1) and knock sensors (2).
23. Remove the bolt (4) grounding cables (2) And (3) on the left side of the cylinder block.
24. Pull the ground cables away from the motor.
25. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor connectors (5).
26. Loosen the bolt securing the grounding cables (or cable that is installed) on the right rear of the block. Tightening torque 16 Nm.
27. Pull out the ground cables (2) from the engine.
28. Remove the bolt securing the ground cable (5) at the left rear of the block.
29. Pull the ground cable away from the motor.
30. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor connectors (1) camshaft position sensor (3).
31. Disconnect all wire support clips from the engine.
32. Remove the battery cable connector block from its bracket.
33. Disconnect the fuel vapor accumulator cleaning tube from the valve (1) and battery tubes (2).
34. Disconnect the fuel line quick connectors.
35. Raise the car.
36. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connectors (1), engine oil level sensor (3) and coolant heater (if installed).
37. Turn away a bolt of fastening of the channel of a cable of the storage battery. Tightening torque 12 Nm.
38. Remove the cable channel fixing pin from the oil pan.
39. Gather and secure all wire bundles away from the engine.
40. Lower the car.
41. Turn away a back bolt of fastening of the pump of the amplifier of a steering to the block of the engine. Tightening torque 50 Nm.
42. Turn away bolts of fastening of an arm of the generator. Tightening torque 50 Nm.
43. Fasten the bracket away from the engine.
44. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold fitting.
45. If required to install the engine lift hook, remove the ignition coils.
46. Install the engine lifting hooks on the cylinder heads. Tighten the mounting bolts. Tightening torque: bolt M8 25 Nm; bolt M10 50 Nm.
47. Turn away bolts of fastening of arms of the left and right support of the engine to the engine.
48. Raise the car and place the safety struts under the frame.
49. Turn away bolts of fastening of protection of the engine, remove protection. Tightening torque 20 Nm.
50. Turn away bolts of fastening of protection of the oil pallet, remove protection (if installed). Tightening torque 20 Nm.
51. Drain the engine oil.
52. Remove the starter.
53. Remove the catalytic converter.
54. Turn away a bolt of fastening of a clip of support of a battery cable, remove a clip. Tightening torque 9 Nm.
55. Remove the bolt securing the automatic transmission torque converter to the drive clutch.
56. Turn away a nut of fastening of a tube of a dipstick of level of working liquid of automatic transmission. Tightening torque 18 Nm.
57. Remove the automatic transmission fluid level dipstick tube.
58. On models with automatic transmission 4L60-E, unscrew the bolt and bolt-stud for fastening the automatic transmission on the right side. Tightening torque 50 Nm.
59. On models with automatic transmission 4L80-E, unscrew the bolts securing the torque converter cover.
60. Remove the rest of the automatic transmission fasteners. Tightening torque 60-63 Nm.
61. Separate the engine from the automatic transmission. Install the torque converter retainer.
62. Lower the car.
63. Attach the engine lifting hooks to the hoist legs.
64. Move a temporary support under the automatic transmission.
Note: When lifting the engine, do not break the clamps of the absolute air pressure sensor. Damage to the clips will result in engine control problems.
65. Remove the engine from the car.
66. Install the engine on a disassembly stand.
When installing:
- Start the engine in the engine compartment and align the engine and automatic transmission.
- Install and tighten the engine mount bolts to the engine block. Tightening torque 65 Nm
- Install and hand-tighten the transmission mounting bolts.
- Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Attention
After repair, the engine must be tested, for this, after installation on the car, perform the following operations:
- Perform engine prelubrication.
- Carry out the procedure "learning" variable valve timing systems (models since 2007 release).
- Switch off the ignition system.
- Crank the engine by hand a few times, listen for unusual noises.
- Turn on the ignition system.
- Start the engine, listen for unusual noises.
- Check oil pressure.
- Bring the engine to 1000 rpm and warm it up to operating temperature.
- Listen to the noise of the valve mechanism.
- Check the engine for fluid leaks.
- Adjust oil and coolant levels.
