Withdrawal
1. Remove the coolant pump.
2. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
3. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor wire connector from the engine wire harness.
4. Turn away bolts of fastening of a forward cover to the oil pallet.
5. Remove the bolts (1) front cover fasteners.
6. Remove front cover (2) and gasket (3).
7. Discard gasket.
8. Remove the front crankshaft oil seal (4).
9. If the cover needs to be replaced, proceed to the following steps, otherwise proceed with installation.
10. Remove the bolts (1) And (6) securing the camshaft position sensor wire harness.
11. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.
12. Remove the wire bundle (5).
13. Remove the sensor (2).
14. On LY6/L76/L92 engines, remove the magnet for variable valve timing.
Installation
Attention:
- Do not reinstall the crankshaft oil seal and front cover gasket.
- Do not apply any type of sealant to the front cover gasket.
- A special mandrel is used to center the front cover. If the cover is not properly centered, oil may leak from the front seal.
1. If an old cover is being installed, go to step 9.
2. On LY6/L76/L92 engines, install the variable valve timing magnet.
3. Check up a condition of a sealing ring the sensor of position of a camshaft.
4. Lubricate the O-ring with engine oil.
5. Install the camshaft position sensor.
6. Lay the sensor wire bundle on the front cover.
7. Connect the wires to the sensor.
8. Tighten the wire harness mounting bolts. Tightening torque 12 Nm.
9. Apply a bead of sealant about 5 mm in diameter and 20 mm long to the joints between the engine block and oil pan connector planes.
10. Install a NEW front cover gasket and front cover.
11. Hand-tighten the bolts securing the front cover to the unit.
12. Hand-tighten the bolts securing the front cover to the oil pan.
13. Install a centering mandrel on the front cover.
14. Align the protrusions of the mandrel with the machined planes of the cover.
15. Finger tighten the crankshaft center bolt to secure the mandrel. Tighten the bolts securing the front cover to the pallet, then to the block. Tightening torque 25 Nm.
16. Remove the mandrel.
17. Connect the camshaft position sensor wires to the engine wire harness.
18. Install a NEW crankshaft front oil seal.
19. Install the coolant pump.
