Note: A broken mount or poor mounting of the mount can cause misalignment and destruction of certain parts of the power package.
Note: When lifting or supporting the engine, do not place a jack under the oil pan, any sheet metal, or crankshaft pulley. Installing a jack under the sump will damage the oil receiver.
1. Support the power package, see engine mount replacement procedures. Raise the power unit until the weight of the unit is off the supports and lightly tighten the rubber on the support pads.
2. Clean the supports and adjacent surfaces to ensure good visibility when checking the condition of the supports.
3. Check the presence of all support fasteners and fastener tightening torques.
4. A little (by 5-7 mm) raise the engine.
5. Inspect the supports look for:
- surface keratinization and the presence of thermal cracks.
- separating the rubber from the metal backing of the support.
- the integrity of the support cushion.
If the vehicle is equipped with hydraulic mounts, check the mounts for fluid loss.
Caution: Before replacing a mount if you suspect a loss of shock absorbing fluid, make sure the source of the fluid is from the mount and not from the engine or other location.
