Caution: Explosive gas is released when the battery is being charged. The battery contains a corrosive electrolyte. The current level when the battery is discharged is high enough to cause burns. To reduce the risk of injury, follow these guidelines:
- Always wear safety goggles.
- Avoid tilting the battery.
- Keep open flames and sparks away from the battery.
- Avoid contact of electrolyte with eyes and skin. If contact occurs, rinse the affected area thoroughly with clean water and seek medical attention.
Note: The car's wiring system is single-wire with a negative wire across "earth". The voltage in the system is 12 volts. Before starting from an external source, make sure that the power source is also working with 12 volts DC. Using any other type of power source may damage electrical components.
1. Install the car - donor and car - recipient so that you can connect the batteries with special cables, while the cars should not touch each other, and the cables were electrically sound.
2. Set the automatic transmission selector to position "R".
3. On both vehicles, turn off all electrical loads that are not needed.
4. On both vehicles, turn off the ignition.
Note: Some vehicles have a remote positive battery terminal. For emergency start, ALWAYS use this remote terminal.
5. Connect the red cable to the positive terminal (2) recipient car battery.
6. Connect the red cable to the positive terminal (1) donor car battery.
7. Connect the black cable to the negative terminal (3) donor car battery.
Caution: Do not connect the black cable directly to the negative terminal of a discharged battery to avoid sparking and explosion of the battery.
8. Connect the black cable to a good "earth" (4) on the engine of the recipient vehicle. This connection must be at least 50 cm from the discharged battery.
9. Start the engine of the donor car and do the following:
- Turn off all electrical loads.
- Run the engine at 1500 rpm for five minutes.
Note: never operate the starter for more than 15 seconds. After 15 seconds of operation, be sure to cool the starter for at least two minutes.
10. Turn the engine of the recipient vehicle with the starter. If the engine crankshaft does not rotate or rotates too slowly, do the following:
- Switch off the ignition.
- Run the donor car's engine for five minutes at 1500 rpm.
- Try again to start the engine of the recipient vehicle.
11. After starting the engine of the recipient vehicle, remove the connecting cables in the reverse order of connection. Do not allow cable lugs to come into contact with metal parts of vehicles.
