Checking drive belts
Check the drive belt for damage and excessive wear and make sure it is properly seated in the pulley grooves. If the belt "squeals" or slips, check the condition of the contact surfaces of the pulley and the belt tension. If defects are found, replace the drive belt.
Caution: Do not apply oil or grease to drive belts.
Note: it is not allowed to peel off the rubber from the cord on the inner (from the side of the ridges) and the outer surfaces of the belt, exposed or damaged cord, peeling of the ridges from the rubber base, the presence of cracks, peeling or wear on the sides of the belt and the ridges of the belt.
Alternator drive belt
1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the air filter outlet duct (see chapter "injection system").
3. Install a socket wrench on the accessory drive belt tensioner bolt.
4. Turn tensioner clockwise until belt tension is released.
5. Remove the drive belt (1) from all pulleys.
6. Slowly release the tensioner.
7. Clean and inspect the surfaces of the pulleys in contact with the belt. Replace belt if necessary.
8. Put the belt on all pulleys except for the parasitic pulley.
9. Install a socket wrench on the drive belt tensioner bolt.
10. Turn the tensioner clockwise to the belt tension release position.
11. Slide the belt over the idle pulley.
12. Slowly release the tensioner, tighten the belt.
13. Check up correctness of installation of a belt on all pulleys.
14. Install the air cleaner outlet duct (see chapter "injection system").
15. Start the engine and check the operation of the belt.
16. Close the hood.
A/C Compressor Drive Belt
1. Remove the alternator drive belt.
2. (early models) Raise the car, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the engine protection.
3. Install the wrench in the square hole in the belt tensioner arm.
4. Turn tensioner clockwise until belt tension is released.
5. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
6. Slowly release the tensioner.
7. Clean and inspect the surfaces of the pulleys in contact with the belt. Replace belt if necessary.
8. Put the A/C compressor belt on the crankshaft pulley.
9. Install the wrench in the square hole in the tensioner arm.
10. Turn the tensioner clockwise.
11. Install the belt over the tensioner pulley.
12. Put the belt on the A/C compressor pulley.
13. Slowly release the tensioner, tighten the belt.
14. Check up correctness of installation of a belt on pulleys.
15. (early models) Install engine protection. Tightening torque 20 Nm.
16. Install the alternator drive belt.
