Note: The front suspension shock absorbers are multifunctional. In addition to dampening suspension vibrations, they also provide a limit to the full suspension travel. Therefore, when replacing a shock absorber, install a shock absorber of the same stiffness and travel, otherwise you can get prerequisites for damage to suspension parts.
1. Raise the vehicle and place the safety stands under the frame.
2. Move the safety strut under the lower control arm.
3. If an electronically controlled suspension is installed, disconnect its rod from the suspension height sensor.
4. Grasp the latches (1) And (2) connector. Rotate the latches counterclockwise until the connector opens.
5. Pull the connector up until it releases from the spike.
6. While holding the stem spike with a wrench, unscrew the top support nut. Tightening torque 20 Nm.
Attention: top insulator (1) much larger than the lower insulator (3) and is mounted on top of the frame bracket. guide ring (2) helps to correctly align the insulators during installation.
7. Remove the nut.
8. Remove the top insulator (1). Don't throw away the plastic guide ring (2).
9. Turn away a bolt of fastening of the lower support of the shock-absorber to the lower suspension arm.
1500 series cars | 2500 series vehicles |
Tightening torque 80 Nm.
10. Remove shock absorber.
Installation
11. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Tighten the shock absorber upper mount nut with the vehicle on wheels.
