2. Remove the shift lever.
3. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
4. Drain the transmission oil.
5. Remove the half shaft (see Chapter 8). Cover the opening in the gearbox with a plastic bag.
6. On all-wheel drive models, remove the transfer case.
7. Remove all parts and assemblies of the parking brake that may interfere with the removal of the gearbox.
8. For expansion of working space remove all necessary details of an exhaust system.
9. Disconnect all wire connectors from the gearbox.
10. On models up to 1995, remove the clutch slave cylinder, move aside and secure. On models since 1996, disconnect the tube from the clutch slave cylinder using a special wrench. Plug the holes in the cylinder.
11. At a conventional checkpoint (with aluminum crankcase) remove the inspection hatch.
12. Mark the location of all brackets and clamps of the wiring harnesses on the gearbox housing and disconnect them.
13. Hang the engine either with a hoist or a jack over a block of wood placed under the oil pan. When removing the gearbox, the engine must be hung out.
14. Hang the gearbox with a jack, it is recommended to use a special trolley jack, on which the gearbox is fixed with chains.
15. Turn away nuts of bolts of fastening of a crossbar. Raise the gearbox and remove the cross member.
16. On models with a cast-iron gearbox Unscrew the bolts securing the gearbox to the clutch housing, remove the spring washers. On models with an aluminum gearbox casing Remove the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
17. Make sure that all wires are disconnected from the gearbox, then move the gearbox on a trolley jack towards the rear of the car until the input shaft comes out of the clutch housing (or from the clutch basket). Keep the position of the gearbox, not allowing it to skew.
18. Lower the jack and remove the gearbox from under the car.
Attention! It is not allowed to press the clutch pedal with the gearbox removed.
19. Check the condition of the clutch parts (on models with a cast-iron gearbox, the clutch housing must be removed). As a rule, when the gearbox is removed, the clutch parts change.
20. Install the clutch (if the clutch was removed).
21. On models with a 4-speed cast iron gearbox, install the clutch housing (if the crankcase was removed) and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
22. Place the gearbox on a trolley jack and lift so that the gearbox is in place, then carefully move the gearbox forward and insert the input shaft into the clutch disc hub. If necessary, move the gearbox slightly so that the splines of the shaft enter the splines of the clutch disc.
23. Wrap and tighten bolts of fastening of a check point to the engine with the set moment.
24. Install the gearbox on the cross member. Tighten all nuts and bolts.
25. Remove the engine hoists and remove the jack.
26. Install all removed parts, guided by the marks made during disassembly.
transfer case (if provided) install according to Chapter 7B.
27. Remove the car from stands.
28. Install the shift lever.
29. At the end of the trip, make sure there are no oil leaks from the gearbox.
