Cardan shafts and cardan joints — general information

1. On the vehicles in question, one-section or two-section cardan shafts with two three (on all-wheel drive vehicles) cardan joints.

2. In the front part of the cardan shaft of front-wheel drive vehicles, a fork of a sliding spline connection is provided, which ensures the movement of the cardan shaft in the longitudinal direction when the car is moving.

3. From the transfer case (on all-wheel drive vehicles) the shaft is attached through the flange. There is a sliding spline at the front of the rear section of the 2-section driveshaft.

4. The 2-section cardan shaft has a middle support with a ball bearing mounted in a rubber sleeve. The bearing is lubricated and does not need to be lubricated during operation.

5. During operation, caring for cardan shafts is reduced to checking the condition, checking the presence of balancing counterweights and their fixation, as well as cleaning the shafts. Lubrication of the hinges is usually not required.
