General information about the automatic box

Some cars are equipped with 3-speed (3L80/3L80-HD) or 4 speed (4L60,4L60-E or 4L80-E) automatic transmissions. 4-speed units are equipped with a torque converter with a lock-up slip clutch (TSS). The coupling provides a direct connection between the engine and the drive wheels, which increases the efficiency of the power transmission and improves economy. Since 1991, some vehicles have been fitted with an electronically controlled Hydramatic 4L80-E automatic transmission. Diagnosis and repair of this transmission is carried out in the dealer's car service.

The 4L60-E and 4L80-E electronically controlled transmissions do not have a cable throttle. Instead of a cable drive, an electronic transmission control is provided here.

You can independently dismantle the transmission and perform individual adjustment work.

Attention! It is forbidden to tow a car with automatic transmission at a speed of more than 50 km/h or for a distance of more than 80 km.
