Attention! To avoid damage to the processor unit, before disconnecting the battery from the ground or disconnecting the wires from the unit, turn the ignition key to the Off position.
Models up to 1995
ECM block
1. Make sure the new unit is exactly numbered to the one being replaced.
2. The block is mounted under the instrument panel on the right.
3. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
4. Remove the glove box.
5. Remove the bolts (see photo) and carefully slide out the block.
6. Disconnect sockets and get the block.
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
PROM block (programmable memory)
8. The PROM unit is mounted inside the processor unit (see photo). You can get it and rearrange it on a new block.
CALPAK block
9. The CALPAK unit is mounted inside the processor unit and is designed for emergency fuel supply in case of failure of the processor unit. The CALPAK block is accessed through an opening in the processor unit case.
Replacement of PROM and CALPAK chips
10. Remove the cover from the PROM/CALPAK units.
11. Remove the PROM chip (see photo). Install the PROM, guided by the recesses on the chip body (see photo). Checking the correct installation of the PROM by reading diagnostic codes is performed at a car service.
Models since 1996
12. On models since 1996, the powertrain control unit (PGM) located under the hood, next to the left side wall of the engine compartment (see photo).
13. To replace the PCM unit, move the knock sensor PROM chip to the new unit. After rearrangement, the PCM must be reprogrammed at a workshop.
