1. Remove the oil pan.
2. While supporting the oil pump, remove the bolt securing the pump to the rear main bearing cap (see photo).
3. Remove pump with drive shaft. Most models have a nylon bushing to center the drive shaft and oil pump drive shaft. This bushing must be on the pump drive shaft (see photo). Otherwise, the sleeve may be crushed and its fragments should be removed from the pallet. When reassembling, replace the bushing.
4. Check the condition of the oil receiver, which should have a very tight fit in the pump housing.
5. If a new oil pump is being installed, make sure the pump drive shaft is seated in the drive shaft.
6. When assembling, make sure that the slot in the upper part of the roller has entered the slot on the ignition distributor drive shaft.
7. Tighten the pump mounting bolt to the specified torque.
8. Install the oil pan.
