1. Wash the crankshaft with solvent and dry, clean the oil channels, clean the journals and deburr (see photo).
2. Check the condition of the shaft journals, the presence of cracks, potholes, burrs. If a copper coin leaves a mark on the crankshaft neck, then the necks should be reground. It is recommended to check the crankshaft in a car service using magnetoscopy.
3. If a deep groove has formed on the necks for the oil seals from the working edge of the oil seal, then the crankshaft should be handed over to a car service. Sometimes the defect is eliminated by pressing a thin sleeve. If repair is not possible, then the crankshaft should be replaced.
4. Measure the diameter of the necks in several places along the circumference and along the length and determine the taper and ovality (see photo).
5. In case of noticeable damage, or if the ovality and taper are not correct, the crankshaft should be reground in a car service and the liners should be replaced with repair ones.
