Attention! Models since 1996 are equipped with an air filter clogging indicator, which is located in the air duct between the mass air flow sensor and the air filter. When the filter is dirty, the green pointer changes color to orange. If a replacement is required, the message will appear «CHANGE AIR FILTER». There is a reset button on the top of the filter module, which should be pressed after replacing the filter.
1. The air filter should be changed periodically, at the specified intervals.
2. On models with throttle injection (TBI) 1987-1995 the air filter is located in a conventional housing mounted on top of the throttle pipe. Loosen the wing nut and remove the housing cover.
3. On SFI models since 1996, the air filter is located in a plastic housing mounted on the right side wall of the engine compartment. Squeeze out the brackets and remove the cover.
4. On TBI models, remove the filter element from the housing (see photo). On SFI models, lift the duct, pull and twist to remove the filter element, (see photo).
5. Install the new filter element in place and install the housing cover.
