2. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
3. Unscrew the filler plug in the gearbox housing.
4. On a gearbox with a drain plug, unscrew the plug and drain the oil. Replace plug and tighten.
5. On a gear unit without a drain plug, insert a flexible hose into the fill port and drain the oil.
6. If there is no pump, remove the gearbox cover. To do this, unscrew the bolts on the bottom of the cover (see photo). Loosen the bolts at the top without completely unscrewing them (see photo). Drain the oil and remove the cap (see photo).
7. Clean the inside of the cover and accessible parts of the gearbox. Check the condition of the gearbox gears.
8. Thoroughly clean the split planes of the gearbox and cover (see photo).
9. If the cover is installed on a gasket, lightly grease the gasket with sealant and glue it to the surface of the cover in place. If the cover is being installed on an RTV sealant, flush the surfaces with solvent, apply a bead of sealant to the cover, and install the cover while the sealant is still wet.
10. Fasten the cover with screws. Tighten the bolts.
11. On all models, fill the gearbox with oil using a pump or syringe up to the bottom of the hole.
12. Tighten the plug.
