Move the gear lever to the PARK position (R) or NEUTRAL (N). The engine will not start in any other position - this is a safety feature. To restart the engine when you are already moving, use only the NEUTRAL position (N).
Note. Do not attempt to move the gearshift lever to the PARK position (R), if your vehicle is in motion. If you do this, you may damage the clutch. Set to PARK (R) only when your car is stationary.
1. Without pressing the gas pedal, turn the ignition key to the START position (E). When the engine starts, release the key. Idle speed will decrease as the engine warms up.
Note. Holding the key in the START position (E) more than 15 seconds at a time will drain the battery much faster. And excessive heat can damage the starter.
2. If the engine does not start immediately, hold the key in the START position (E). If it doesn't start within 10 seconds, press the gas pedal all the way down for 5 seconds or until it starts.
3. If the engine still does not start (or start up and shut down), wait 15 seconds and try to start again.
When the engine starts, release the ignition key and the gas pedal.
