Speed control lever on the steering column
1. Press the brake pedal down with your right foot and apply the parking brake (left foot).
2. Move the speed control lever to the PARK position (R) in the following way:
1. If you have four-wheel drive, make sure the transfer case is not in the NEUTRAL position (N).
2. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position (IN).
3. Pull out the key and take it with you. If you were able to leave the car with the key in hand, your car was left in the PARK position (R).
Gear lever lock
If you park on a slope and do not move the transmission into PARK correctly, the weight of the vehicle may put too much pressure on the parking latches in the transmission. And it can be difficult to move the gearshift lever out of the PARK position (R). It worked the gear lever lock.
To prevent this, set the parking brake first, then set the gearshift lever to PARK correctly (R), as above before leaving the driver's seat.
When you are ready to drive, first move the gearshift lever out of PARK (R), then release the parking brake.
If the lock still works, you need another vehicle to push your vehicle up slightly so you can release the gear lever.
