If steam comes out of the engine
Warning. The steam from an overheated engine can burn you severely, even if you just open the hood. Wait until the steam stops flowing. Stop the engine if it overheats and get out of the car.
If no steam comes out of the engine
If you receive a warning from the appliances but do not see or hear steam, the problem may not be very serious. This can happen if you:
- Long climbed the hill on a hot day
- Stopped after a fast ride
- Have been idling for a long time «traffic jams»
- Towed a trailer
Try doing the following:
- 1. Turn off the air conditioner
- 2. Turn on the heater at full power at the highest fan speed, if necessary, open the windows
- 3. If you are in «traffic jam», move the shift lever to NEVTRAL (N), and if you are in motion - in OVERDRIVE (D).
If the overheat warning is no longer there, you can drive further, slower for the first ten minutes. If there is still no warning, you can drive normally.
If the overheat warning continues, stop the engine.
If still no sign of steam. press the accelerator pedal until the engine speed is twice as high as at idle. After two or three minutes, release the gas pedal. If the lamp is still on, turn off the engine, get out of the car until it cools down.
