Models 1987-1994
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
Headlight switch
2. Turn away screws of fastening of the facing panel of the instrument panel (see photo).
3. Carefully disconnect the wire connector on the back of the light switch and remove the panel.
4. Turn away screws of fastening of the switch of light of headlights and get the switch from the facing panel of a guard of devices (see photo).
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the ground ring is installed on the switch.
Headlight dimmer
6. The headlight dimmer is connected by a rod to the turn signal switch and is mounted at the bottom of the steering column.
7. Turn away bolts and nuts of fastening of a steering column to an arm and lower a steering column (see photo).
8. Disconnect the connector from the regulator.
9. Turn away bolts of fastening of a regulator to a steering column (see photo).
Starter Interlock Switch/Reverse Signal Switch (vehicles with automatic transmission)
10. See Chapter 7B.
Windshield wiper/washer switch
11. Remove the steering wheel.
12. Squeeze out the retainer plate and at the same time remove the retainer fastening bracket to the steering column with a special tool (see photo). Remove the retainer.
13. Remove the spring and turn signal switch cam (see photo).
14. Remove the emergency stop signal button from the steering column.
15. Turn away screws of fastening of the switch of indexes of turn (see photo).
Attention! Before dismantling, mark the location of the turn signal lever.
16. Disconnect from the switch of indexes of turn a socket at the bottom of a steering column.
17. Remove the cover from the braided wire harness and pass the turn signal switch harness through the steering column. Remove the turn signal switch assembly (see photo).
18. Using a paper clip, press the spring of the reminder horn switch on the ignition switch (see photo) and remove the horn switch from the turn signal switch housing.
19. Turn away bolts of fastening of the case of the switch of indexes of turn and a steering column (see photo) and remove the switch housing to the steering column.
20. Disconnect the handle from the wiper/washer switch by pulling the handle out of the switch. Gently rock the handle in both directions so as not to damage the switch mechanism.
21. Remove the pin through the back of the switch housing (see photo) and remove the windshield wiper switch housing.
22. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Ignition switch
23. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
24. Turn the ignition key to the Lock position. If the lock drum switch has been removed, then pull the drive stem until you feel the locks, then move the stem down one click.
25. Lower and secure the steering column.
26. Turn away screws of fastening of the switch of ignition and remove the switch, having taken it from a pocket on a steering column.
27. Before installing, make sure the ignition switch is in the Lock position (see photo).
28. Attach the actuator stem to the switch.
29. Pressing the switch, install it in place, tighten the screws.
30. Wrap bolts of a steering column.
Steering column switches (turn signal and steering wheel lock drum switch)
31. Remove the windshield wiper switch (see above), then remove the turn signal switch.
32. Remove the ignition switch.
Models since 1995
33. Remove the steering wheel.
34. Remove the steering column cover.
35. Turn away a bolt, disconnect a socket and remove the switch (see photo).
36. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. If necessary, center the airbag coil (the centering of the spiral will be broken if the spring detent was pressed out, and the steering wheel hub turned along with the spiral). To do this, do the following:
- A). Remove the airbag coil, turn the coil over and depress the spring retainer.
- b). Turn the hub in the direction of the arrow until it stops.
- V). Turn the hub in the opposite direction 2.5 turns and release the spring clip.
37. Install the wave washer and airbag coil (see photo). Take up some slack in the airbag coil harness to keep it taut, otherwise the harness could be sheared when the steering wheel is turned.
