Determining the condition of the front suspension parts

During each maintenance, as well as during repairs, it is imperative to check the condition of the protective covers of the ball joints of the suspension, paying special attention to the absence of mechanical damage to the covers. It is necessary to carefully inspect the suspension parts, check for signs of rubbing against road obstacles or the body, for cracks in the suspension parts, deformations of the axles of the lower arms, cross member or suspension arms and body front elements, and also check the condition of ball and rubber-metal joints.

The deformation of the axles of the lower and upper arms is determined by inspection.

If the cross member is deformed so that it is impossible to adjust the angles of the wheels with washers in a satisfactory condition of all suspension elements, replace the cross member. The rubber-metal joints of the upper and lower arms must be replaced:

• with breaks and unilateral «buckling» rubber;
• when cutting and wearing rubber at the ends of the hinges.
