We remove the phase sensor to check or replace it.
With the ignition off..
... we press the retainer of the block of the wiring harness of the engine management system (the crankcase ventilation hose is removed for clarity from the pipe of the cylinder head cover) …
... and disconnect the wiring harness block from the sensor.
With the "12" head, we unscrew the bolt securing the sensor to the camshaft bearing housing..
... and remove the sensor from the seat of the shaft bearing housing.
The connection of the sensor and the camshaft bearing housing is sealed with a rubber ring. Checking the phase sensor is shown in the section Troubleshooting.
Before installing the sensor, we clean its socket in the camshaft bearing housing from dirt. Install the phase sensor in reverse order.
If the sealing ring of the sensor is damaged or the rubber has lost its elasticity, replace the ring with a new one. We tighten the phase sensor mounting bolt with a torque of 8–12 N·m.
