We check the amount of belt wear by the position of the indicator arrow on the body of its automatic tensioner. Remove the air filter to access the belt tensioner (see Removing the air filter).
The belt tensioner housing is located under the power steering pump pulley.
The indicator arrow on the movable part of the tensioner should be between the two extreme risks on the fixed part of its body.
If the indicator needle drops below the leftmost mark, then the belt is extremely worn out and must be replaced.
The belt must also be replaced if cracks, ruptures and delamination of rubber from the fabric base are found on it.
To remove the drive belt of auxiliary units, loosen its tension.
For this…
... with a "14" ring wrench, turn the tensioner roller clockwise by its fastening bolt, loosening the belt tension..
... and remove the belt from the alternator pulleys, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and auxiliary drive.
You can remove the drive belt from the bottom of the car, but this will require a flyover or inspection ditch and it is necessary to dismantle the right engine compartment mudguard (see Removing the mudguards of the engine compartment).
By analogy with the operation performed in the engine compartment, with a "14" spanner, turn the tensioner pulley clockwise by its fastening bolt, loosen the belt tension and..
... remove the belt from the pulleys of the generator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and auxiliary drive.
Drive belt marking (six-wedge, length 1875 mm).
Install the accessory drive belt in reverse order.
