It is important to locate the leak as accurately as possible, as it is likely that a worn or damaged part will need to be replaced.
We use the following methodology:
- with the engine off, wipe dry all the steering elements;
- we check the fluid level in the reservoir of the power steering pump and, if necessary, bring it to normal;
- we start the engine and rotate the steering wheel several times until it stops in the extreme left and extreme right positions;
- We find the exact location of the leak and eliminate the cause.
For topping up, as well as when changing fluid in the power steering system, it is necessary to use DEXRON IV working fluid.
The power steering reservoir is located in the engine compartment on the left, next to the battery. Checking the level of the working fluid in the tank is carried out on a horizontal surface with the engine off.
The MIN and MAX marks are marked on the tank body, between which the working fluid level should be when the engine is cold.
When the engine is warm, the fluid level should be near the MAX mark. If the level of the working fluid has dropped below the MIN·mark, then it is necessary to add fluid. To do this, turn the lid counterclockwise..
... and remove the tank cap
Add liquid to the tank.
Tightly wrap the lid of the tank.
