Before disassembly, turn the drive gear with a screwdriver, the gear should rotate in only one direction. Otherwise, replace the drive with a new one.
With the "13" head, we unscrew the nut of the lower contact bolt of the traction relay...... and remove the wire tip.
Using the E5 head, unscrew the three screws securing the traction relay..
...and take it off.
Using the "10" key, we unscrew the two coupling bolts..
... and disconnect the stator housing along with the armature from the front cover.
Using the E7 head, unscrew the two screws securing the back cover to the brush holder plate..
... and remove the cover.
We remove the armature with the brush holder from the stator housing.
Remove the brush holder from the anchor.
Remove the protective cover of the planetary mechanism..
...and an o-ring.
We take out the three gears of the gearbox.
We take out the rubber support of the drive lever.
We remove the drive shaft with the lever..
... and disconnect the lever.
Having rested the jaws of the open-end wrench "by 13" on the restrictive ring of the coupling, we strike the key with a hammer and compress the restrictive ring.
Pry off the retaining ring with a screwdriver..
... remove it from the shaft.
We remove the restrictive ring from the shaft..
…and freewheel drive ("bendix").
Remove the ring gear of the planetary gearbox from the shaft.
External inspection check the condition of the collector and armature windings.
Charring of windings is not allowed. With a slight burn of the collector, we clean its plates with a fine abrasive sandpaper. In case of severe burning and wear, it is better to replace the anchor. Seizures and enveloping of bronze from bearings on the necks of the armature shaft are eliminated with the finest sandpaper, followed by polishing.
Using an ohmmeter, check the armature winding for a short circuit.
The resistance must be very high (strive for infinity). We replace the defective anchor.
We check the holders of insulated brushes for a short to ground.
The resistance must be very high (strive for infinity). Otherwise, replace the brush holder with a new one.
We assemble the starter in the reverse order. We lubricate the gears of the planetary gearbox with SHRUS-4 grease.
We install the restrictive ring in place with the help of sliding pliers.
We install the drive lever so that the protrusions of the lever are facing the overrunning clutch.
We install the rubber support of the drive lever with a metal insert to the drive lever.
We install the traction relay so that its control output is located on the right side (shown by arrow).
