1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.
Warning: For diagnostics and repair of electronic passive safety systems (SRS) special equipment and accessories are required. In case of failure, contact a specialized service station. To avoid injury from unauthorized operation of pyrotechnic charges, do not disassemble the system components yourself. However, when repairing the steering, electrical system and bodywork, the driver's airbag module may interfere with the work. If it is necessary to remove and install it, work can be carried out independently, strictly adhering to the rules for operating the system:
- Disconnect the battery before starting work. Attempting to remove the airbag without turning off the power supply may cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly;
- it is possible to proceed with the following operations to remove the airbag only after the activator capacitor is completely discharged. To discharge the capacitor, it is necessary after disconnecting the wire from the terminal «minus» battery, wait at least ten seconds;
- Do not disassemble the airbag module;
- do not allow the airbag module to fall and get water, grease or oil on it;
- the airbag module removed from the vehicle must be stored on a flat horizontal surface with the module facing upwards;
- the airbag module must not be exposed to temperatures above S5°C;
- when installing the module in the steering wheel of the car, stay outside the airbag deployment zone;
- When you turn on the ignition for the first time after installing the airbag module in the vehicle, be outside the vehicle and turn on the ignition switch by reaching under the lower steering column cover.
2. Turn the steering wheel 180°from straight ahead.
3. With a rod of a suitable diameter, press the airbag module retainers towards the center, pulling the module towards you.
Releasing the latches actuates the springs, so hold the module during this operation.
4. Move the module away from the steering wheel hub.
5. Slide the retainer securing the wiring harness block to the airbag module...
6.... and disconnect the block.
Through these holes, with the help of a rod, the clamps of the airbag module are pressed. For clarity, shown on the removed steering wheel.
7. Remove the airbag.
8. Loosen the bolt securing the steering wheel to the steering column...
Note: The steering wheel bolt comes off with a lot of force because it has a locking sealant applied to it.
Warning: Do not turn off the steering wheel mounting bolt completely, otherwise, when removing the steering wheel with your hands, you can injure yourself in the event of a sharp detachment from the steering column shaft.
Helpful Hints: You can secure the steering wheel from turning by using the locking mechanism of the anti-theft ignition switch. To do this, remove the key from the ignition lock and turn the steering wheel until the shaft is fixed with an anti-theft device. After loosening the steering wheel nut, turn off the anti-theft device by inserting the key into the ignition switch, and return the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.
9. Knock the steering wheel off the splines of the shaft with sharp blows of the hands.
10. Finally turn out a bolt and remove a steering wheel.
Note: Secure against twisting (e.g. with tape) airbag contact ring and horn.
11. Establish a steering wheel and the dismantled details in an order, the return to removal.
Note: There are marks on the steering column shaft and the steering wheel; when installing the steering wheel on the splines, align these marks.
Warning: When installing the module in the steering wheel of a car, stay out of the airbag deployment area.
When turning on the ignition for the first time after installing the airbag module to the vehicle, be outside the vehicle and turn on the ignition switch by reaching under the lower steering column cover.
