Replacing the rear wheel hub

The hub is equipped with a double-row angular contact ball bearing designed for long service life, which does not require adjustment and lubrication during operation. However, overloading the car, driving at high speed for a long time, driving on roads with poor coverage, flooding the car and a number of other factors dramatically reduce the life of the bearing. Bearing replacement requires special pullers or a mandrel press. Driving a bearing into the hub with a hammer will usually damage the races. Even if there is no visible damage on the bearing after hammering in, the inevitable misalignment during driving leads to a sharp decrease in life ei and noise during operation. Therefore, in garage conditions, if it is necessary to replace the bearing, it is recommended to replace the hub assembly.

You will need: keys «at 15», TORX TZO, wrench for wheel nuts.

Note: This subsection describes the replacement of the right rear wheel hub, the left rear wheel hub is replaced in the same way.

1. Before raising the rear of the car, turn on 1st gear (move the automatic transmission selector to the position «R»).

2. Install wheel chocks («shoes») under the wheels.

3. Raise and secure the rear of the vehicle. Remove the wheel from the side of the hub being replaced.



4. Turn out two bolts of fastening directing blocks to an arm.




5. Remove the caliper assembly without disconnecting the brake hose:..



6.... and secure it with wire, taking care not to twist or strain the hose.



7. Remove the rear wheel brake disc (see «Replacing the brake disc of the rear wheel brake mechanism»).



8. Turn out the screw of fastening of the gauge of frequency of rotation of a back wheel...




9.... remove the sensor.



10. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness holder from the bracket.



11. Turn out a bolt of fastening of an arm of a brake hose and a plait of wires of the gauge of frequency of rotation of a wheel.



12. Turn out four bolts of fastening of a nave to the lever...




13.... and remove the hub together with the brake shield.

The rear wheel hub is non-separable. If its bearing fails, the hub is replaced as an assembly.

14. Establish all removed details in sequence, return to removal.

15. Several times press the brake pedal to the stop. This is necessary in order to select the gaps in the brake mechanisms that appeared after they were removed.

16. Install the head speed sensor in the reverse order of removal. If, after installing the wheel speed sensor, the anti-lock brake system malfunction warning light does not go out, contact a service station for ABS diagnostics.

Warning: When installing the sensor, align the hole in the sensor housing exactly with the threaded hole in the caliper mounting bracket. During installation, do not rotate the sensor around the longitudinal axis.

An increase in resistance to the movement of the sensor should only be felt for the last 2 mm before it is fully seated in the bracket. If the sensor with high resistance enters the hole in the bracket from the very beginning of the installation, remove the sensor and eliminate the cause of the jam (dirt, burrs on the case, etc.).

It is strictly forbidden to press the wheel speed sensor with a hammer.

17. If necessary, similarly replace the second hub.
