Necessary equipment
Hinge separator KM-507-B
KM-460-A Drive shaft puller
Removal procedure
1. Raise the vehicle and place it on the supports provided for this purpose.
2. Remove wheels. See Section 2E, Tires and wheels.
3. Remove the hub nut.
4. Remove the lower pivot nut and cotter pin.
5. Separate the steering knuckle from the lower joint.
6. Remove the outer tie rod nut.
7. Using the hinge separator KM-507-B, separate the end of the extreme tie rod.
8. Remove the wheel drive axle from the intermediate shaft using a KM-460-A puller.
Important: Support the loose end of the wheel drive shaft. The free movement of the axle shaft from the gearbox after its removal from the hub is prohibited.
Important: Place a container under the gearbox to collect the escaping fluid. After removing the axle shaft, close the hole in the gearbox to prevent foreign particles from entering inside.
9. Remove the bolts securing the intermediate shaft suspension bracket to the cylinder block and remove the shaft from the gearbox with final drive assembly.
Assembly procedure
Note: Pay special attention to the seals so as not to damage them.
1. Clean the hub and transaxle seals.
2. Insert intermediate shaft into axle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts of the intermediate shaft suspension bracket to the cylinder block with a torque of 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).
3. Insert the axle shaft into the intermediate shaft.
4. Install the hub on the axle shaft.
5. Mount the steering knuckle on the lower joint.
6. Insert the outer tie rod into the steering knuckle/strut assembly and fit the nut onto it.
Tighten
Tighten the outer tie rod nut to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
7. Install the lower pivot nut and cotter pin.
Tighten
Tighten the bottom pivot nut to 10 Nm (81 lb-in).
8. Tighten the hub nut to 205 Nm (157 lb-ft).
9. Put on wheels. Put on the nuts. See Section 2E, Tires and wheels.
10. Lower the car to the floor.
Tighten
Tighten wheel nuts to 125 Nm (92 lb-ft).
11. Add fluid to the gearbox to the required level. See section 5A and 5B, "Automatic/manual transmission with final drive assembly".
