J-45404 Gearbox Alignment Tool with Pointer
Withdrawal procedure
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
2. For HFV6 3.2L or 2.0S Diesel, remove the ECM bracket.
Important: The manual shift shaft of the final drive assembly must be in the neutral position (N) before the switch is in place.
3. Apply the parking brake and place the gear selector in neutral (N).
4. Disconnect electrical connector (1) automatic transmission range switch and electrical connector of the gearbox with final drive assembly (2).
5. Disconnect the cable from the transmission range selector lever. See «Shift cable» in this section.
6. Remove the AT range selector lever nut and lever.
7. Use a screwdriver to pry the lugs of the spring washer down from the manual shift shaft nut.
8. Remove the nut, split lock washer and flat washer.
9. Loosen the bolts securing the automatic transmission range switch.
10. Remove the automatic transmission range switch.
Installation order
1. Install the automatic transmission range switch to the manual shift shaft lever.
2. Screw in the bolts. Tightening should be done by hand ONLY.
3. Install flat washer, split lock washer and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the automatic transmission range switch nut to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
4. Make sure the manual shift shaft is in the neutral position (N).
5. Bend the tabs of the lock washer up to secure the nut.
6. Install J-45404 onto the manual shift shaft and rotate the AT range switch until the neutral baseline on the switch aligns with the pointer line on J-45404.
7. Tighten the transaxle range switch bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the automatic transmission range switch bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
8. Remove J-45404 from manual shift shaft.
9. Install the transmission range selector lever and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut of the automatic transmission range switch lever to a torque of 16 Nm (12 lb-ft).
10. Install the cable to the shift lever of the automatic transmission and adjust the cable. See «Shift cable» in this section.
11. Connect electrical connector (1, 2).
12. For HFV6 3.2L or 2.0S Diesel, install the ECM bracket.
13. Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery.
14. After adjusting the transmission range switch, make sure that the engine starts only in the PARK position (P) or NEUTRAL (N). If the engine starts in any other position, readjust the switch.
