Removal procedure
1. Dismantle the engine assembly. follow the paragraph «Complete engine» in this section.
2. Remove cylinder head covers. See «cylinder head cover» in this section.
3. Remove the crankshaft pulley assembly. See «crankshaft pulley» in this section.
4. Remove the camshaft position sensors and camshaft control valves. See Part 1F3, Engine Controls - HFV6 3.2L.
5. Remove bolt (2) mounts (22 places) front cover (1).
Attention! To remove the front cover, use only the points provided for pressing the cover with a lever, and the forcing screw screwed into the hole intended for it.
6. Screw a suitable forcing screw into the hole provided for it (1).
7. Using dots (2), provided for pressing the cover with a lever, and the forcing screw, separate the (RTV) cover.
8. Remove front cover assembly (1).
Disassembly
1. Remove front seal (1) crankshaft from the front cover of the engine (2), using a flat bladed tool. Send seals to waste.
2. Remove seals (1) camshaft control valve from the front cover of the engine (2). Send seals to waste.
3. Remove seal (1) coolant pump from engine front cover (2) and send the seal to waste.
Clear
Attention! Do not use a sharp scraper or metal pad to clean the sealing surfaces.
1. Remove RTV sealant (1) from the engine front cover with a plastic or wooden scraper.
2. Remove all debris from bolt holes.
3. Clean the front cover using a suitable cleaning solvent.
4. Dry the front cover with compressed air.
Inspection
1. Inspect both sides of the front engine cover, checking for the following faults:
- nest damage (1), designed for seals of the valve for controlling the valve timing,
- bolt hole damage (2),
- damage and (or) corrosion of the channels for the passage of coolant (3),
- dents or damage to the cover on the outside (4),
- hole damage (5) for the front crankshaft oil seal,
- chips or damage to the sealing surfaces of the coolant pump (6), And
- thread damage (7) holes for the coolant pump bolts.
2. Repair or replace the front cover if necessary.
Assembly
Attention! Do not lubricate the front crankshaft oil seal or the sealing surfaces of the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley must be installed on a dry seal.
1. Install new front seal (1) crankshaft in the front cover (2), using tool J-29184 (3) and a suitable hammer.
2. Install in front cover (2) new oil seal (1) camshaft control valve, using tool EN-46103 (3) and a suitable hammer.
Installation procedure
1. Install guide pins EN-46109 (1) into the cylinder block (two places).
2. Install new cylinder block seal (1) on the front cover of the engine.
3. Apply RTV sealant (1) on the front cover.
4. Place the front cover on the special tool and install in place.
5. Remove the special tool from the cylinder block.
6. Tighten the engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown.
Tighten
Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
7. Install all previously removed external parts.
8. Install the engine assembly. follow the paragraph «Complete engine» in this section.
