Attention! Do not charge the battery if the hydrometer is clear or light yellow. Replace the battery instead. If the battery is hot to the touch and gas or acid escapes from the vent, stop charging or reduce the charging current to avoid injury.
2. Check hydrometer. If a green dot is visible, proceed to the load test procedure. If the indicator is dark but no green is visible, charge the battery. To charge a removed battery, follow the steps below «Charging a fully discharged battery» in this section.
3. Connect a voltmeter and a battery load tester to the battery terminals.
4. Apply a current of 300 A for 15 seconds to relieve voltage on the surface of the battery.
5. Remove the load.
6. Wait 15 seconds and apply a load of 270 A.
Important: Evaluate the temperature of the battery by touch, taking into account the ambient temperature over the previous few hours.
7. If the voltage does not fall below the specified minimum, the battery is OK and can be replaced. If the voltage is below the specified minimum, replace the battery. follow the paragraph «Battery Specifications» in this section.
