Diagnostic Information
Excessive drive belt wear is usually caused by improper installation or use of the wrong belt.
Minor pulley misalignment (ov) drive belt will not cause excessive wear, but may cause increased noise from the operation of the belt or may cause it to slip off the pulley.
Excessive pulley misalignment (ov) accessory drive will cause excessive wear and may also cause the belt to slip.
Description of the test
The numbers below refer to the operations in the diagnostic table:
2. This inspection is to determine if the drive belt is properly installed on all accessory drive pulleys. Wear on the drive belt can be caused by the pulley being in the wrong track (ov).
3. Installing a drive belt that is too wide or too narrow will wear it out. The ribs of the drive belt must line up with all the grooves on the pulleys.
4. This inspection should determine if the drive belt is in contact with any part of the engine or body when the engine is running. Sufficient clearance must always remain when the load on the accessory drive components changes. The drive belt, under no circumstances, should come into contact with the engine or body parts.
