Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the front heated oxygen sensor connector.
3. Loosen the retaining bolts of the exhaust manifold heat shield.
4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
5. Loosen the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe of the muffler.
6. Remove the bolt and nut from the muffler exhaust pipe mounting bracket.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold lock nuts in the sequence shown.
8. Remove the exhaust manifold.
9. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
10. Clean the sealing surfaces of the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.
Installation procedure
1. Install a new exhaust manifold gasket.
2. Install the exhaust manifold.
3. Install the exhaust manifold lock nuts and tighten them in the sequence shown below.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold lock nuts to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
4. Install the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter. See Part 1G. Exhaust system of the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe of the muffler to a torque of 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
Tighten the bolt and nut of the muffler exhaust pipe mounting bracket to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
5. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield screws to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
6. Connect the front heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
