Adjustment Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector (IAT).
3. Remove the air filter assembly. Cm. "Air filter assembly" in this section.
4. Remove the right front wheel. Follow Section 2E, Tires and wheels.
5. Remove the front engine cover from the right front wheel side.
6. Remove the flexed auxiliary drive belt. See «Accessory drive belt» in this section.
7. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
8. Remove the engine mount. See «Engine mount» in this section.
9. Remove the timing belt front cover screws
10. Remove the timing belt front cover
11. Rotate the crankshaft at least one full turn clockwise using the crankshaft gear screw.
12. Align the mark on the crankshaft gear with the notch on the bottom of the timing belt cover.
13. Align the timing marks on the camshaft gear. Use the exhaust gear marking for the exhaust gear and the intake gear marking for the intake gear as the gears are not interchangeable.
14. Loosen the auto tensioner screw. To loosen the tension on the belt, turn the hex socket counterclockwise.
15. Turn the hex head of the auto-tensioner clockwise until the timing belt pointer is aligned with the notch on the timing belt auto-tensioner bracket.
16. Tighten the auto tensioner screw.
17. Rotate the crankshaft two full turns using the crankshaft gears.
18. Check the auto tensioner pointer.
19. When the timing belt auto-tensioner pointer is aligned with the notch on the timing belt auto-tensioner bracket, the timing belt is properly tensioned.
Tighten
Tighten the auto-tensioner screw to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft)
20. Install the timing belt front cover.
Tighten
Tighten the timing belt front cover bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in.).
21. Install the crankshaft pulley.
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
22. Install the engine mount. See «Engine mount» in this section.
23. Install the flex accessory drive belt. Cm. "Accessory drive belt" in this section.
24. Install the front engine cover. See 9R, Front of the body.
25. Install the right front wheel. Follow Section 2E, Tires and wheels.
26. Install the air cleaner assembly. See «Air filter assembly» in this section.
Tighten
Tighten the air cleaner housing bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in.).
27. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
28. Connect the negative battery cable.
