Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector (IAT).
3. Remove the engine cover screw.
4. Disconnect the breather hose and the positive crankcase ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover.
5. Remove the air filter assembly. Cm. "Air filter assembly" in this section.
6. Remove the right front wheel. Follow Section 2E, Tires and wheels.
7. Remove the front engine cover from the right front wheel side.
8. Remove the auxiliary drive belt. See «Accessory drive belt» in this section.
9. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
10. Remove the engine mount. See «Engine mount» in this section.
11. Remove the timing belt front cover screws
12. Remove the timing belt front cover
13. Using the crankshaft gear screw, turn the crankshaft clockwise until the timing mark on the crankshaft gear aligns with the notch at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.
Note: The camshaft gears must align with the notch on the cylinder head cover, otherwise engine damage may occur.
14. Align the camshaft gears with the notches on the cylinder head cover.
Important: Use the intake gear mark for the intake camshaft gear and the exhaust gear mark for the outlet camshaft gear as the gears are not interchangeable.
15. Loosen the auto tensioner screw. Turn the hex head to loosen the belt tension.
16. Remove the timing belt.
Installation procedure
1. Align the mark on the crankshaft gear with the notch on the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.
2. Align the timing marks of the camshaft gears with the intake gear marking for the intake gear and the exhaust gear marking for the exhaust gear.
3. Install the timing belt.
4. Turn the hex wrench clockwise to tension the belt. Rotate until the pointer is aligned with the notch.
5. Install auto tensioner.
Tighten
Tighten the auto-tensioner screw to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft)
6. Rotate the crankshaft two full turns using the crankshaft pulley screw.
7. Check the auto tensioner pointer again.
8. Install the timing belt front cover.
Tighten
Tighten the timing belt front cover bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in.).
9. Install the engine mount. See «Engine mount» in this section.
10. Install the crankshaft pulley.
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
11. Install the flex accessory drive belt. See «Accessory drive belt» in this section.
12. Install the front engine shield on the right front wheel side.
13. Install the right front wheel. Follow section 2E, Tires and wheels. Section 2E, Tires and wheels.
14. Install the air cleaner assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the air cleaner housing bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in.).
15. Connect the breather and positive crankcase ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover.
16. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
17. Install the decorative engine cover.
18. Connect the negative battery cable.
