Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the bottom engine cover.
3. Remove the oil filler cap.
4. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the oil into a suitable container.
5. Remove the front silencer pipe from the catalytic converter. See Section 1G2, Exhaust System - FAM II 2.4D.
6. Remove the oil pan flange retaining screws to the transaxle assembly.
7. Remove the retaining bolt from the transaxle assembly and oil pan flange.
8. Remove the intermediate shaft support bracket bolts from the oil pan and engine block.
9. Remove the intermediate shaft support bracket.
10. For vehicles with permanent four-wheel drive: remove the transfer case bracket. Section 5D, Transfer case.
11. Remove the oil pan retaining screws.
12. Remove the oil pan from the engine block by pushing the engine assembly forward.
Cleaning procedure
1. Clean the sealing surface of the oil pan.
2. Clean the sealing surface of the cylinder block.
3. Clean the oil pan retaining screws.
4. Clean the holes for the oil pan connecting screws on the cylinder block.
5. Clean the oil pan scraper.
Installation procedure
1. Coat the mating surfaces of the oil pan with sealant.
Important: Install the oil pan 5 minutes after applying the liquid sealant.
2. Install the oil pan to the cylinder block.
3. Install the oil pan retaining screws.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
4. Install the oil pan flange retaining screws to the transaxle assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the oil sump flange-to-transaxle bolts to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
5. Install the transaxle retaining bolt to the oil pan flange.
Tighten
Tighten bolt securing gearbox with final drive assembly to oil pan flange to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
6. Install the intermediate shaft support bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the intermediate shaft support bracket bolts to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).
7. For vehicles with permanent four-wheel drive: install the transfer case bracket. Section 5D, Transfer case.
8. Install the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter. See Part 1G. Exhaust system of the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe of the muffler to a torque of 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
Tighten the bolt and nut of the muffler exhaust pipe mounting bracket to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
10. Install the oil pan drain plug.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).
11. Install the engine bottom shield. Follow Section 9N, Frame and lower bodywork.
12. Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
