Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the timing belt. follow the paragraph «The drive belt of the gas distribution mechanism» in this section.
3. Remove the timing belt rear cover. follow the paragraph «Rear cover of the gas distribution mechanism drive belt» in this section.
4. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor connector.
5. Remove the oil pan. follow the paragraph «oil pan» in this section.
6. Remove the oil pump retaining screws.
7. Carefully separate the oil pump and gasket from the cylinder block and oil pan.
8. Remove the oil pump.
Verification procedure
1. Clean the mating surfaces of the oil pump gaskets and cylinder block.
2. Remove the pressure relief valve screw.
3. Remove the relief valve and spring.
4. Remove the seal between the oil pump and crankshaft.
5. Remove the oil pump rear cover.
6. Clean the housing and all components of the oil pump.
7. Check all oil pump components for signs of wear. Replace worn oil pump parts.
Note: Fill the oil pump cavities with petroleum jelly to fill the pump with oil and prevent engine damage.
8. Lubricate all parts of the oil pump with clean engine oil.
9. Apply Loctite 242 to the oil pump rear cover screws and install the cover and screws.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pump rear cover bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
10. Install relief valve, spring, washer and screw.
Tighten
Tighten the safety pressure relief valve screw to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
Installation procedure
1. Apply Loctite 242 to oil pump screws and RT seal (RTV) to a new oil pump gasket.
2. Install the gasket to the oil pump and the oil pump to the cylinder block with the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pump retaining bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
3. Install a new seal between the oil pump and crankshaft. Lubricate the seal lip with a thin layer of grease.
4. Install the oil pan. follow the paragraph «oil pan» in this section.
5. Connect the oil pressure sensor connector.
6. Install the timing belt rear cover. follow the paragraph «Rear cover of the gas distribution mechanism drive belt» in this section.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
